We aim to convene scientists from across the Virosphere, ranging from basic to clinical virology, mixing medical, veterinary, wildlife, invertebrate and plant virology. The program will have plenary sessions on themes that we feel will be informative and inspiring to virologists from all areas of expertise, as well as sessions for a more specialised audience. Throughout the program, our ambition is to have tracks in which basic, clinical, and diagnostic virologists feel at home, as these typically have separate conferences whereas we feel strongly that the interaction is crucial to advance knowledge in each field. Each specific session will have a state-of-the-art introductory talk by invited speakers, followed by oral presentations selected from the submitted abstracts. Sessions will be chaired by a team of international virologists and young talents. We encourage participation of junior scientists through travel grants and sessions of specific interest for early career virologists. We will have onsite TWIV studio recordings with an audience, for which junior scientists will get preferred access. The location has been chosen for its suitability for interaction, allowing attractive poster sessions with good exposure under the enjoyment of a drink, excellent locations for interactions between sponsors and scientists, and plenty of hide-outs and hangouts for discussions and small meetings. The only drawback of the conference location is that it is right in the heart of the city of Rotterdam, reminding us to work on a program that is attractive enough to keep everyone inside during the sessions!
